The first implementation option actually shows zero performance loss compared to not using the helper function. Therefore, I don't see a point in complicating things by doing the second implementation option, especially since table lookups are quite bad for performance and likely would make things slower than the first implementation option.
In addition, the first option also keeps the processing of each zone inside its respective script and offers some robustness as well (helpers with really expensive or inefficient callbacks will be on separate threads and have less of an effect on other zones)

Maybe name should be onPointInOut. Makes a little more sense than onPointInside (since it triggers for both inside and outside)
