the dependencies are built on a machine with AVX2 instructions -- I assume that this is what's causing the crashes on your end. It indeed would be nice to transition these, though my preferred approach would be a recursive CMake-based build system that compiles the Mitsuba+dependencies in one go in a way that works everywhere (Brew is "only" on OSX). It is unlikely that I'll get to this on the short term, so your options are to use an machine with AVX2 in the meantime or recompile the dependencies yourself.

Thanks for the reply, Wenzel. I'm compiling on a Mac Pro (Late 2013) with a 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5-1650 v2, which appears to only support the AVX instruction set.

I'll see if I can get the dependencies compiling on my end, but I'll probably just roll back to 0.5.0, which compiled great on all of the Mac Pros I'm using (ranging from Early 2008 to this Late 2013 model).

FYI, @wjakob, I tried to recompile v0.5.0 (which I've used quite a bit), but the mercurial repository at https://www.mitsuba-renderer.org/hg/dependencies_macos is now requiring authorization, so it can't be accessed:
