I decided not to follow Number's toFixed in this regard because if I had it would be difficult to get the full value of a number in normal (non-exponential) notation when its exponent was beneath the current EXPONENTIAL_AT setting.

For example,

BigNumber.config({ EXPONENTIAL_AT: 10 });
var x = new BigNumber('123456789999.99');
console.log( x.toString() );    // '1.2345678999999e+11'
console.log( x.toFixed(0) );    // '123456790000'

// Get the number's full value in normal notation without having to know how many decimal places it has.
console.log( x.toFixed() );     // '123456789999.99'

As it is, it is easy to get a number in normal (what some call 'fixed-point' notation) or exponential notation whatever the value of the EXPONENTIAL_AT property (the value that determines the exponent value at which toString returns exponential notation). And of course, if 0 decimal places are required it is simple to include the 0.

Good point. At least this is consistent with toPrecision and toExponential which both have an undefined default value as well.
