Ah, ok. Some more testing shows the floating point issue appears in python 2.6, but not in python 2.7.

Looks like the fix needs to be localized in debian, and not necessarily here... but I'll leave this issue open until I figure it out.

this is nothing debian specific, this is a general problem of floating point number representation.

you cannot rely on a specific rounding behavior so floating point numbers with finite precision should never be compared for equality. Use almost-equalty or greater-smaller than. E.g in doctests:
print round(floatnumber, 6)
