What type of collection is connected_users? It should be a list, not a set. Then when a user refreshes that user will be in the list twice for a short amount of time.

It's a list sorry, that is a good point but I want to avoid having duplicates but I guess this is something I can do client side or maybe even filter server side before sending to the client, Thanks and sorry for asking stupid questions.

It's not a stupid question. The reality is that for a short amount of time there are actually two connections from the user that refreshed, the old connection will take a couple of seconds to disappear. If you don't want to have duplicates another option is to attach a count to each client, and you only remove them from the list when their count reaches 0.
