Our ISV has changed the Variant Code length from 10 to 100. This option is no longer available in AL. A longer Variant Code is required for a higher level of granularity in the inventory of products and allows user to understand what they have in inventory. Our customers variant codes can be as complicated as 362PL144X780-0.0001-P-N where every value of that variant code means something about the product itself and therefore requires its own variant code/SKU card for inventory tracking.

Our change over to 100 may be overkill, but 30 would be more than welcome, the more the better because it allows for a higher level of granularity of inventory, which is extremely important in manufacturing and sales.

Is there a reason this was moved into the ALAppExtensions repo? As far as I am aware this functionality could not be made into an extension. Extensions do not allow you to change the length of a field on a table, so it is technically impossible to do this as an extension. Is there any planned(future) AL functionality to change the length of a text or code field from an AL Extension?

We moved all the issues from old repo to new ALAppExtensions repo so old one can be used for pure developer and no application issues.
