The code on line 455 is where $cmdOutput is defined, so I'm not sure why you're getting that... If you can, try adding $cmdOutput = null; on a new line just before 455, and see if that helps. Either way, your OS and PHP versions will be helpful to have as well.

I added $cmdOutput = null and now I have this error:

That's your issue, then. Unless you can get your host to enable exec(), you won't be able to use PHP-Resque with them. We're always looking into ways to avoid the use of exec(), but a sane environment unfortunately requires it, for the moment. Sorry that's not a more positive result.
