you can also put your repos in /path/to/github/repos/* /path/to/gitlab/repos/* etc
and then use an includeIf in your git config to automatically use the correct identity based the "github" or "gitlab" presence in the path

Regarding the git alias command, i had use a pseudo function in order for it to work

git config --global alias.test '!f(){ git config user.name "$(git config user.$1.name)"; git config user.email "$(git config user.$1.email)"; git config user.signingkey "$(git config user.$1.signingkey)"; };f'
