there's no really go way to do automatic versioning. going this route would require creating release tags. I'd probably also need to decide whether to include the alpine version in the tag as well, which would make it not strictly semver...

I'm not sure if this satisfies everyone's requriements but I guess we cans tart with this...
I've pinned master to a specific version of awscli and s3cmd and then tagged it with the awscli version. DockerHub is now configured to build on all tags. What's in the tags will be in the release notes on github.
