I'm afraid we're not supporting file systems that automatically remove empty directories. The reason is that our database backend relies on standard behavior of advanced functionality of its underlying file system, and chances are that these behaviors also differ in a filesystem that exhibits different behavior for base functionality.

That said, if you'd really want to, you could manually create a .keep file in the /data.ms/update_files directory so it never becomes empty, but be aware that we won't be supporting that solution, i.e. implementing it or checking it doesn't break in future versions.
