Hi, one of the main ideas for project-viewer was indeed the sidebar, as the available options did not give me all I need

I guess the next question would be ..

What can / does project-plus need to do / not do that you feel it needs to / project-viewer does?

Followed by ..

We should talk about your ideal sidebar and what it makes it awesome.

  • Is it just being able to select a project to switch to via the mouse?
  • Would it be improved to add some meta information to the sidebar (last updated, etc.)
  • Is a right panel ideal? Or would perhaps a split panel with the tree-view more ideal? Not sure if this one is possible until Atom gets real panel support but we could investigate.

It's possible to reuse tree-view i've done some experiments with it https://github.com/shemerey/atom-tree-view-bundler

It's not so hard to implement left, right, top, bottom or even modal panel for project side bar

BTW What do you think about Slack like sidebar, when you able to jump back and force by Cmd+1 Cmd+2 etc.

@shemerey I must have missed your comment.

The important part here (before we get ahead of ourselves and implement the sidebar) is to figure out why @jccguimaraes or @bripkens wanted a sidebar in the first place. I'm not seeing the need. Not that I don't want to do it. I just want to better understand the original why so we can perhaps better address the root want/need.

@mehcode my guess is they want to be able to see The whole picture it can be useful if you are working on a group of projects and don't remember particular name

For instance you have one relatively big project with tons of micro projects/services/libraries inside, and you want to visualize it somehow.

As for me I primarily use fuzzy search but something like https://github.com/mrodalgaard/atom-expose can be useful for visualization purpose as well as sidebar kind of visualization.
