problem including REJECT on custom chain about ferm

It seems the problem is in the kernel itself, I have just tried with this tiny file in iptables-save format:

*raw
:PREROUTING ACCEPT [0:0]
:CUSTOMCHAIN - [0:0]
-A CUSTOMCHAIN -j REJECT
-A CUSTOMCHAIN -j RETURN
-A PREROUTING ! -i lo -m addrtype --src-type LOCAL -j CUSTOMCHAIN
COMMIT

There is nothing unusual or invalid in that configuration. However:

$ sudo iptables-apply testrules
Applying new iptables rules from 'testrules'... iptables-restore: line 7 failed
failed.
Error: unknown error applying new iptables rules: testrules
Reverting to old iptables rules... done.

If I replace REJECT with DROP, it works as expected:

$ sudo iptables-apply testrules
Applying new iptables rules from 'testrules'... done.
Can you establish NEW connections to the machine? (y/N)

Stupid mistake: REJECT is only valid for the filter table. Disregard this issue.
