Checking that the source is on the GOPATH doesn't follow symlinks about counterfeiter

Are you interested in submitting a PR? If so, you could test this behavior by adding a symlink in the fixtures directory, generating a fake for that package in the test script, and importing the generated fake in the test code. I think the actual fix would go into this function.

If not, I'll set aside time to fix this in the next couple of weeks.

I'm taking a look at it now. I'd just like to point out that my initial error message was wrong - it's actually:

Path 'foo' is not on GOPATH

I don't think that changes most of what you're saying, but I think the actual logic lives in this function instead

After looking at it some more, it looks like the easiest way to fix this is in main.go in this function. We just need to evaulate symbolic links at this level to get it working. I'll open a PR shortly.
