@diondkb thanks for creating the issue. Any chance you could go to Matomo => Reporting and then check in one of the real time reports (eg in the dashboard or visitor category) whether it is showing visits in general?

Archiving should likely not take 20 minutes. Any chance you could enable WP_DEBUG see https://matomo.org/faq/wordpress/i-have-a-problem-how-do-i-troubleshoot-and-enable-wp_debug/ ? Then it might show any error that is happening

The system report looks all good otherwise.

Thomas I also noticed that the Visitor Map takes ages to load, or not at all.

this should be definitely quite fast

@diondkb had a look at the above HTML page you forwarded but there wasn't anything related to us in there. Also installed the same plugins as you have (about 21 out of 28, some couldn't be installed as they are probably commercial) and even signed up to Jetpack etc but couldn't reproduce any issue so far.

Is there any chance we could get access to your server files and your WordPress to maybe investigate further? A user with Matomo Super User role should be enough so we wouldn't really be able to see any of the content etc AFAIK. Let me know, you could send us the details to wordpress at matomo.org

I suppose the HTML output of #135 (comment) is after enabling WP_DEBUG? Do you maybe know if there is any error or so in your PHP/Webserver logs? Although it running for more than 20 minutes seems maybe indicating some other issues. Could you let us know roughly how much traffic you have per day or week or month? Feel free to email us at wordpress at matomo.org.

also noticed that I get an error message now and then, but a refresh sorts it out. Will clip and send the message to you when it happens again.

That be great. It might help us identify the issue.

How would I set this up in wordpress?

You would first create a user in your WordPress for us. Ideally with Administrator permission. On getting access to your files we would likely need FTP access or so. If that's not something you are familiar with we could wait with that to see if we really need it.

@diondkb

Here is the error I get in the Matomo dash.

I'm not seeing anything here. Should I see anything? If it is an image, this might have gone lost in the email

@diondkb we have released a new version and improved how possible errors are reported so we can better troubleshoot the issue. Could you update to the latest version 0.3.5 of Matomo for WordPress?

Then can you trigger again the Archiving manually in System Report => Troubleshooting? This time it might show some errors / warnings above the archive reports button like this:
image

If there are any, it be great to copy these errors/warnings and paste them in the issue. If there are no errors or warnings shown, could you wait a day and then copy the system report again and paste it here?

Thanks @diondkb The error message is a bit cryptic unfortunately... any chance you could paste the system report? What I'm after especially is a section like this:

image

This new section might appear in the System Report under Matomo => Logs. If you see this section, could you copy/paste it? Sorry about all that trouble.

@diondkb is this what you get after updating to the latest version when looking at the system report or when clicking on "Archive reports" on the troubleshooting page?

If yes, is there maybe a chance you could create a login for us to your WordPress? If so, be great to send it to wordpress at matomo.org

Another user also just mentioned an issue that helped us identify another issue. We've released yet another update. Be good to give it a try if you can. Sorry about all that and your help is very appreciated.

@diondkb thanks a lot. I've been troubleshooting for a while but couldn't find the issue just yet. Do you mind if I temporarily install a plugin to get more information that I need? It would be a custom plugin displaying information like whether PHP uses CGI etc and would remove it again afterwards.

BTW: I also changed the password for this user since it was visible on Github for a short time. Just to make sure no one else can use it

Great news, it looks like it was caused by litespeed and it seems to work now. Thanks for all your help.
