I use Marked in Markdown Here. It's a Chrome, Firefox, and Thunderbird extension that lets you write email in Markdown and then render it before sending. It also supports syntax highlighting and custom styling (just in Chrome, as yet). It arose out of my own desire to have such a tool, but it seems that there are a few thousand other people who also like being able to write email in Markdown.
...And it wouldn't be nearly as good without Marked. I was so happy when I found this project -- all the other JS-MD libraries were shaky and/or didn't have GFM support. Marked is ideal.

Marked is now a dependency for 233 other modules that are published on npm. There were 18,000+ downloads last month. I think this project has outgrown the need for an in-the-wild list.
