I played around with GitHub GraphQL for a bit: it is powerful, and we'll certainly be able to do what we need using it.

That said, it has no support for pagination, caching, filtering, etc. It may be simpler to start with https://github.com/PyGithub/PyGithub as @chrisholdgraf suggested.
