Brightness Controller Simple was written in python2, which had reached end of life. Ubuntu does not anymore ship all the dependencies. There is nothing we can do about it.

the largest issue we are facing these days is the addition of awesome but buggy features (e.g., system tray minimization, DDC control, etc.). We receive pull requests from the community and merge them, only to find that the contributors gradually disappear, leaving the task of resolving the bugs to the core contributors.

At this point, I personally think it is better if we once again offer only the core features, and let the community create their own forks. I am right now considering a separate doc/readme that lists such forks so that people can find those.
That way, people get the vanilla, bug-free Brightness Controller, and can also enjoy additional forks from others.

Also trying to make Mint Mate 21 work like Unity from 16... just started using it a week ago, such a pain.

Also check out Ubuntu Unity 22.10 (official flavor). I have been using it as my primary OS in my desktop. It may not have as many sane defaults as Mint, but it is good enough.

For my case, it's going to be back down to 2 sliders once I finally get there; very vanilla. I accidentally hard set RGB on both monitors to 0, that was an adventure lol. Also, the core program seemed to work well, but I almost immediately started working to reduce the GUI.

@LordAmit This seems like a vanilla version like the v1. I have not checked it out yet, though. We can provide it as the continuation of brightness-controller-simple for recent versions of Ubuntu (there is still demand for the simple version).

I don't really code, I just look for patterns.

Can can you guys recompile this for me as a test to see if it achieved just 2 brightness sliders? mainwindow.ui attached with "_edit" appended to name.

This is just an adjustment to the current Python3 version you are using.

Poetry didn't go so well for me, could not get it working properly. So I have been manually removing and adjusting a few lines at a time from mainwindow.py and init.py... I'm getting close. Also trying to make Mint Mate 21 work like Unity from 16... just started using it a week ago, such a pain.

Any chance you could point me in the right direction? I've got 2 BR sliders showing, but it takes 5 tabs on the keyboard for a full cycle, back to the first slider. Still trying to remove some left over code for the dropdown boxes... I think you call them comboboxes? on the right. FYI, I would not be using any Linux OS without this program. It is a god send. Thank you for making it in the first place!

On 22 mint now, would still rather unity, but I'm gona try n wait for 24 with some kind of LTS. That would be ideal.

New Years resolution maybe :) just 2 sliders (vanilla) in python3 🙏... maybe you can call it vanilla, I like ice cream lol
