Do you mind adding a minimal .cpp file (not just the function) which triggers this (e.g. I can run mlir-clang file.cpp and this crash occurs?)

This is part of a relatively large C++ input code. I do my best to provide the C++ input file by Monday.

Something improper is happening here. I don't think commenting out the error check here is wise. Instead can you provide the C++ input that generates this?

Trying the stand alone function did not produce the same issue. In fact there is no memref.load in the associated IR.
I am going to investigate further.
I think it is worth mentioning that I work on a modified version of Polygeist which uses Intel DPC++ (SYCL compiler) instead of llvm-project. As DPC++ shares the same syntax with C++, I did not expect seeing different behaviour while processing same function.
