It looks to me like that code is leaky because the 'leak' variable is added to every second. It'll only ever get bigger and won't get GC'ed so will look like a leak.

Ok, so it is reported as leaking even it might be on purpose. I mean, it could make sense to have a long running process (webserver) and store every request in an array for a while.

I thought that it would detect the circular references.

I think the example was intended to show that memwatch itself wasn't leaking by creating a simple intentional leak which is detected. Not sure if that's watertight but I'm sure they know better than me ... By the way - I'm just an interested third party. :)

Based on #7 I'd say it's not detecting circular references.
