GitHub has a special interface around releases (see this page). It will do all the magic to add a git-tag and create a .zip of the code.
I've added this documentation to a confluence page and used the GitHub interface to create a "draft" release. Please start adding change notes to the draft release.

Note for the 1.2.0 release: The version information must be updated in two places: src/scr.h and the META file.
Once the transition to CMake is complete, the META file can be removed from the repository.

scr.h has been updated to v1.2.0. There are few outstanding issues, but this one is done (proven by v1.2.0-rc1)
