You can't have the same file with two syntaxes; if you're using application.conf for Play 1.2, you need to point the config lib to a different filename (use something besides ConfigFactory.load(), like ConfigFactory.load("myotherfilename")).
Only Play 2.0 and higher use the config lib.

I am trying bring Configuration to Play 1.2.x so that when we move up to Play 2 it would be more seamless. What I did was to experiment using ConfigFactory with Play 1.2.x application.conf file but was faced with the problem I posted earlier and that was something I failed to mention when I posted the issue.
