I have the same problem & this is what I found in the extension error section:

Once you download the repo and unzip it, you find a file called "build.sh". Open up the terminal in that directory where the file is and run
chmod +x ./build.sh && ./build.sh
This will create 2 files: one for chrome and one for firefox in a folder called "dist".

I'm sure the edit wasn't applied. I suggest you download the forked repo in my profile. Many people confirmed it working.
It works also on Firefox latest version.
