Sounds reasonable. A third alternative would be on_connect
/on_bind
callbacks, that's also what AnyEvent::Handle
does.

I think the best way would be a seamless working handle (= queuing), but this would be heavy work with correct error handling and everything.
Perhaps an easy way would be to check during push_send if the handle is not ready and throw a better error. Also implement an on_connect so someone can easily build an own queuing.

This is actually not easy to check. When is it ready? On connect? On bind? On both? (also, this ticket has made me realize that it won't create the socket if you don't do either, that is another bug)
Adding an on_connect
/on_bind
seems like the most consistent solution. It's also by far the easiest to implement. I'll make a branch for that :-)
