It should be possible by using a controlled custom component, but it would be a bit different than your proposed solution (behavior for end user would be the same tho). Let me work out an example for that and I will update the issue.

I found your suggestion interesting and implemented the ReflexHandle as you proposed. Take a look at this demo and try the handle available in v 2.2.6.

@leefsmp I'm getting an error after updating to 2.2.6

var childProps = _extends({}, child.props); at line 221 in ReflexElement.js is giving me the error:
child is null

Try v 2.2.7 it should fix the issue. I guess you are using a ReflexElement that contains a null child
