I was able to get this working in kubernetes by running this exporter as a sidecar to the postfix deployment. Postfix itself was being managed by supervisord (eg: https://github.com/eldada/postfix-relay-kubernetes) and logs to stdout as well as /var/log/maillog.

You do need to worry about rotating the logfile though.

@SergeSpinoza /dev/stdout isn't a normal file, it's a socket(?) that is same thing as standard output for process using it - so your postfix instead of logging to file is logging to standard output - just like k8s/docker like it.

But you can't read from it. And even if you could, /dev/stdout for postfix and /dev/stdout for postfix_exporter would be two different files/sockets/whatever it is.

Now to solution... At the moment I don't have it, and I have same problem... In theory you can log to file and add second container that will read from file to stdout so k8s can ingest it, but this would be ugly, you would have to handle log rotating etc.

Probably we need some solution to read logs from k8s and pass them to exporter.
