@huguesalary descheduler evicts pods from overutilized nodes (decided by thresholds) to move those pods to less utilized nodes so that cluster can get more balanced. Since based on your thresholds (50,50,50), all nodes are under threshold, so there is no need to evict any pods.

Thanks, I re-read the documentation and understand better.
What I was trying to achieve was to effectively rebalance my cluster such that some underutilized nodes would get fully drained, triggering pods to be rescheduled on some other underutilized nodes.
My end goal is to kill some underutilized nodes, better utilizing other nodes and saving money.

@huguesalary the cluster-autoscaler might work for your use case (better utilizing other nodes and saving money).
--scale-down-utilization-threshold float Sum of cpu or memory of all pods running on the node divided by node's corresponding allocatable resource, below which a node can be considered for scale down (default 0.5)
While cluster-autoscaler is able to concentrate the load in fewer nodes, I'd say that descheduler does the opposite: spread the load among them.
