From email:
Reason: I follow various Twitter accounts to get notifications and system alerts, however they also post stuff that I do not want to be notified about.
What: Being able to ignore all notifications except for ones the user manually creates a filter for. And/or being able to allow all notifications except for ones the user manually creates a filter to ignore.
How: When activated the entire filter system would be based on a whitelist all notifications or blacklist all notifications style.
First they would pick the Twitter account to apply this filter to. E.g. @example123
Second they would pick the action, either show this notification or ignore this notification (depending on the overall filter system whitelist/blacklist).
Third they would pick the type of filter:
- If a tweet contains a certain hashtag (may not be needed with "certain string", not sure how your app code is setup)
- If a tweet contains a certain string
- If a tweet starts with a certain string
- If a tweet ends with a certain string
- If a tweet contains a mention
- If a tweet contains an image, video, or gif
- If the message is a retweet
(A string being any single word or full string) e.g. "Example" or "This is another example"
Main focus for this idea is the text, but the other filter types would be nice and would make this a better rounded feature for more people.
User can make unlimited (or as many as technically possible) of these filters.
Including many per accounts. E.g. multiple filters can be applied to watch @example123
Additional Thoughts:
Maybe an advanced mode that uses regular expressions.
Maybe an option per-filter to either vibrate and/or a certain notification tone.
A way to backup these filters in Googles cloud using the APIs for saving app data or the users Google Drive.
In addition to the one above, a sync ability to have the same filters on all your devices.
Conclusion: This would be absolutely amazing! I am not sure how complex this would be to do in Java, Twitter APIs, and Android APIs but thought I would ask to see what you think. I would be happy to offer any assistance I can to get this feature added to Talon.
