This must be the same issue as #24 however updating to VS 2017 doesn't appear to be an option due to Python requiring VS 2015.
Please pardon my ignorance: I'm just a hobbyist with no C++ experience.

So it turns out that code generated by Visual Studio 2017 does in fact work with Python. I have only tested the official Python release 3.8.1 x86-64 installer, but it works fine.
Please feel free to close and ignore this nonsense!

My pleasure. Yes, Python comes with both VS2017 and 2019, it's an option in the VS installer. And it's actually a good IDE for Python. It lets you navigate to definition, has intellisense, code completion--normal things you'd get from an IDE, and comes with anaconda for package management. For VS2015, IIRC, this was an addon that did require a specific version.
