The GH Actions pipeline now by default disables the aws cli from using the metadata service by setting AWS_EC2_METADATA_DISABLED=true. This seems a sensible default since by default actions are run on Azure.
People using self-hosted runners on AWS that want to rely on node roles for authentication have to remove the environment variable from their pipelines. But they have to adjust the pipeline anyway to schedule it on self-hosted runners.
