Unfortunately looks like it. The README just got updated with a deprecation notice

We won't add new features. But still consider important fixes to keep it in a maintenance state. Of course the community can still contribute more help.

It is clear that this is a large-scale project and someone would need to work full-time on it in order to successfully develop it. If no company is ready to sponsor, then the end of the project is understandable. I don't know if anyone will be able to dedicate so much of their free time to dig into the code and be able to make a valuable contribution.

Sorry to hear this news, but is there a clear plan on the regular security fix release in the future? I can see that the dependabot is still doing a great job remedying issues like #3863 but no one reviews it and possibly releases a new version.
