What you're doing won't work. You need to animate individual RGB components. Read the docs on colors: http://VelocityJS.org/#colors

We've started using velocity at work now for a few projects and I must it's working great.

I'm a bit curious why you've decided to go this way when animation color instead of the way guialberti talked about? All these properties add upp pretty quickly when you start to animate color on multiple parts of an element. I really don't care if it's hex or an RGBA string or even an object with RGBA properties but it still seems a bit complicated for the end user?

It let me cut down on code bloat and also simplified my code overall. I'll take another look at this in the coming days though.
