Setting background colour on large canvas takes a LONG time about node-pureimage

ctx.fillRect() has a fast path when the canvas isn't transformed. Try using that instead. You don't need the begin and close paths, just fillRect().

Thanks, I did try that originally but was also slow

I ended up with this solution (credit to ChatGPT) which does the job quickly

for (let y = 0; y < heightPx; y++) {
    for (let x = 0; x < widthPx; x++) {
    const idx = (this.imgBitmap.width * y + x) << 2; // Calculate the pixel index
    this.imgBitmap.data[idx] = 255; // Red ®
    this.imgBitmap.data[idx + 1] = 255; // Green (G)
    this.imgBitmap.data[idx + 2] = 255; // Blue (B)
    this.imgBitmap.data[idx + 3] = 255; // Alpha (A)
    }
}
