Did you verified that your config file has only one app_Key option?
Also, if you look at the container's log, do you see a message like Checking for new beta key... ?

yeah, only has one entry for that. I used your script makemkv-set-key /defaults/settings.conf it validated that the key exists. Maybe my key is incorrect. Ill check that, as the script simply does a comparison of $1 to whatever settings file you provide it. Container logs didnt have an entry or reference to checking for new beta key. Ill continue to dig through. Ill open a PR if I find anything that can help in this case.

You can also try to enter the key via the UI (Help->Register).

ok I found it. There are 2 settings.conf that it had to be set in:
/defaults/settings.conf
/appdata/makemkv/settings.conf
