What happens if you use the built-in firmware, or if you manually correct your BIOS/NAND files? I noticed these lines...

...and they don't look correct. I think the default behavior of choosing the most suitable sysfiles might have gotten it wrong this time.

Probably also worth a mention that MelonDS's core also does not perform well in RALib. It does a similar deal of shutting down with no error, but when restarting a game rather than when starting a game. In general with Melon DS DS I can only possibly get the game to start on my first attempt if going from load core and then loading the game by browsing for the file but that's not always going to work. It always fails if loading from recent files which never happens on other systems. Forgot to mention that and honestly even loading that way still mostly fails on subsequent attempts to load.

I ask because the logs say that the core was trying to load that PC-88 ROM as firmware. Since DS firmware normally contains executable code, the crash may originate from the emulated console executing garbage (for our purposes). Could you see if the issue persists when using the correct native firmware?

I do, but it's not perfect. If I'm too strict in eliminating candidates then perfectly valid firmware might be excluded. That's been an issue before.
