I need to import a file in self-installed package, as if the package were trully installed. currently there is only package.json under self-installed package directory.

Assuming I'm working on a npm project named "foo", I need to require('foo/dist/foo-bar-plugin'); or import 'foo/dist/foo.css';. This is a common scenario when writing example/test code, especially in web projects.

I have an idea to implement such a feature:

  1. figure out files to be packed, by checking .gitignore, .npmignore and package.json#files, or just extrat output section Tarball Contents of npm pack --dry-run
  2. add files(except package.json) to node_modules/foo, by copying files listed in Tarball Contents, or by creating symlinks targeting Tarball Contents

Interesting ideas - I'll have a little ponder over this one :)
