REQUEST: Please rename the project about openbay

@adambair With all respect your website needs some fixing. It's outrageous that I'm welcomed with:

Openbay isn't available yet in your country. We're growing every day, so keep checking back!

Give me about page, give me details of what you do etc. You're Your designer/engineer who decided to show that idiotic page instead of some real info dose not deserve it's beer.

Regarding the rename... if project owners wold like, maybe a same like:

• OpenPB aka OpenPirateBay (naming idea comes from OpenGL, OpenAL, OpenCV etc)

As an alternative name, I propose:

• OpenTPB (because TPB is a common abbreviation of "The Pirate Bay")
• FreeBay (downside: contains "eBay" in the name)

Thanks for the feedback! The country filter was left in place from our initial pilot period and is no longer necessary. I'll have it removed shortly.

LibreBay sounds good too. To say LibreBay contains eBay in it is like saying that LibreOffice contains Office (I refer to MS Office suite) in it. Same thing about AbiWord containing Word in it. At least that's my common sense.

@adambair I feel for this situation of taking his business name, but consider the boost of your name when people discover this name on the Web. Many people will just land in your page for a wrong path, but also they will discover your service. :-) If I was in your feet I will be tailoring my website at maximum to give to these users a very good impression of a service that existed before OpenBay born and has a nice relationship to their community.

Hey guys, I'm one of the other developers at www.openbay.com.

As Adam said, we've spent literally a couple of years trying to get our startup off the ground, and this really sucks for us. And I'm a fan of TPB - I've maybe even used it a few times :)

This isn't a case of some big corporation trying to exercise it's legal muscle to ward off bad PR, we're literally a few people running out of a co-working space in Cambridge, MA USA.

The thing that really sucks for us is SEO. Many users (especially older ones) have gotten in the habit of just typing "openbay" or "open bay" into google and not the URL bar - it's actually a pretty large percentage of our organic search hits. This happens even more when we're lucky enough to get any press. What those search engine users get for search results right now are a bunch of news sites about "piracy," which isn't a great thing, particularly for that demographic. It'll likely stay that way for a long time because it'll take a while for articles from the likes of Ars Technica and Techcrunch down on the search results.

So yeah, @joelwallis is right above - we did see a decent uptick in traffic when news of this project broke. But now it's back to normal - it's still a little early to tell if users are backing out when they hit the search results, but I can't imagine it won't have a negative impact.

It'd be so awesome of the project could be renamed out of the kindness of your hearts. We figured it wouldn't hurt to ask nicely. :/

[Plus if I get a vote OpenPirateBay sounds good 😁 FreedomBay isn't bad but it might not convey the FOSS aspects of the project]

Hmm, I really think we should move away from PirateBay in the name, in fact, putting pirate in the name at all might not be the best idea. There might be people out there that want to use openbay for, for example, linux torrents. I think FreedomBay sounds pretty awesome, personally.

I think that all these Open... Names should be reserved for OpenSource projects. Otherwise, the name missleads to thinking the company would produce OpenSource Code.

There are a lot of Open.. thingies: OpenGL, OpenAL, OpenCV etc.
