it seems like there is an answer, but that there might be a bug in propono.

I believe this line:

should reference "@visibility_timeout" rather than 'visibility_timeout'.

I'll investigate more during daylight.

That's just using the attr_reader not the instance variable directly. Shouldn't make a difference.

Once I grokked the visibility timeout and resolved which client instance I needed to set it to, all is well.

I put it on my todo list to write some documentation for the project about this.
