The documentation has been updated to no longer kind of suggest that ICECC_VERSION is needed in the usual case, so the fineses of ICECC_VERSION should be hopefully now better understood in deployments where it actually needs to be used :).

I'm not sure if this is actually really a bug, or if there's even a reasonable way to do something about it. Using a different environment more or less requires a chroot, which in turn more or less requires remote compiling, which however is not possible in the first place.

I think this should be simply left as a "complication" of the complicated ICECC_VERSION case.

what you're asking for would mean a lot of overhead and loss of performance and I would claim that people use icecc to actually get performance. So I'm going to close the issue
