Discovery of the basepath for dependencies breaks if another js file named base.js is referenced before Closure's about closure-library

I see I can specify the path by overriding goog.global.CLOSURE_BASE_PATH but 
perhaps some better error 
handling would help other users?

Yes. One way to improve this is to check the last script in document.scripts 
(or 
document.getElementsByTagName('script'). It should be the Closure base script 
if run 
from inline code.
