The strategy has always been to recommend brew install svn
, which is exactly what we see in the logs you've provided.

The strategy has always been to recommend
brew install svn
I see. The problem with that is the discrepancy between the output of brew doctor
and then actually attempting a font cask installation — one thing says you're good to go, while the other says you need something else. Wouldn't a better experience be either:
a) When one uses brew doctor
, reminding the user (if they are on Monterey or above) that subversion is required for some font cask installations
b) Automatically installing the subversion dependency when attempting a cask installation and svn
isn't found in the system?
I definitely saw the suggestion in the log, and I know how to solve the issue in my own case, but it felt surprising to me that it wasn't handled automatically, or that there was no warning/notice when using doctor
. Homebrew always felt like it aimed for the principle of least astonishment, and this one interaction felt different.
