I found you can enter the path in zwave2mqtt config screen as another option although havingthe default correct seems like the right thing to do,

I still don't get this at full, while this is true for Zwave2Mqtt itself, the OpenZwave itself uses the path already there. This needs a bit more checks to be sure.

OK, so this isn't resolved.
I've tried a couple of variants now, in all cases, it is not working.

I suspect a bug in zwave2mqtt. If I set the config path to an empty string in the zwave2mqtt config file, it works... if the config option is missing, it doesn't.

So that is a bit of odd behavior.

Alright, if i got some spare time the next days i will look into the code of zwave2mqtt and try to find a solution for that. I have to admit that i had the "empty" string variant after removing the path from the config settings in zwave2mqtt

I hit this problem today with zwave2mqtt add-on v0.7.0. I worked around it by setting zwave2mqtt's Config Path setting to "/etc/openzwave" but it was tricky to figure out what was going on.

For that matter, because these files live in the image, all changes are lost whenever the zwave2mqtt add-on is restarted.

I suggest that we move these configuration files into a persistent storage directory (e.g. /data/devices) to prevent unintended regression of state in case zwave2mqtt is restarted while the Internet is down.

As a further future refinement, it would be nice to separate the relatively immutable files (e.g. device_classes.xml) in the image from the ones that are downloaded automatically so that they can reside in different locations.
