It seems that more work than that has to be done. See Malcolm's cpphs.compat wrapper script at http://www.cs.york.ac.uk/fp/darcs/cpphs/cpphs.compat.

We do now pass a whole bunch of these defines to cpphs. Do we know if this is enough to close this ticket now?

Nobody has complained about this for a while. I'll assume we're passing enough flags now. It looks like we pass the same flags for cpp or cpphs.
If we're still missing some please open a new bug and provide details.
