Would really like the ability to create animated GIFs about artpaint

I think that this and #31 might need enhancement to the Haiku Data Translator for GIF for this to work. ArtPaint seems to just use those to load/save different file types, from what I can tell.

Maybe something can be hacked together with ffmpeg.
ArtPaint could at least allow exporting of one PNG per layer, so people can then process those from there. Either feeding ffmpeg or using an online tool to create an animated GIF.

BTW, I use the Qt app QView (HaikuDepot) to view animated GIFs in Haiku. Just set it as preferred app for images/gif and Bob's your uncle.

after digging through DataTranslators more, I think you might be right. The easier route is either something like what you proposed, or a custom solution for ArtPaint.

It looks like the Data Translators for images currently just provide a single composite image for all multi-layer formats (GIF, PSD, WonderBrush) so getting individual layers out of it might require work to not just the GIF translator, but the whole Data Translator framework.
