To summarize the salient features of the diff:
- netCDF-C produces a file with a
_Netcdf4Dimidattribute on thegrp1/data1dataset. This seems a little strange -- this variable definitely isn't a dimension scale. - h5netcdf produces a file where
grp1/xandgrp1/yhaveREFERENCE_LISTattributes of length 2. This also looks suspicious -- why is the dimension scale attached twice, both to the same dataset?

The real issue seems to be reusing dimension IDs.
Fixed by 13dae1a
from h5netcdf.
