We could just make these syntax errors, the _ is not a normal identifier in patterns.

True. The only reason I'm hesitant is that we'd still probably want to allow *_ in sequence patterns, which is a bit confusing. But it's not too complicated of a rule, so I could honestly go either way. Besides, we already have different restrictions on starred patterns in these two contexts (in mapping patterns, they must appear last).

Outlawing them for now still leaves open the possibility of allowing them in the future, too.

Note that what we add to the PEP should call out that *_ is allowed (since in sequence patterns this is meaningful).
