The CameraV app has a variation on this, with both an internal secure camera that is stored directly to IOCipher, and the launch of the external camera using this intent. You are right, we could easily offer this in ProofMode as well, but we also wanted the app to be something that the user didn't have to directly interact with, instead just acting like a service.

The threat of race condition with a malware is definitely a realistic threat to consider. Perhaps we can watch for file modification events that get triggered by the file system. I think you see those as well?

Sorry -- I knew CameraV had the internal camera, but I did not realize that it had the external option.

There is a MODIFY event. I have not used FileObserver much, so I do not know all the details.
