This was due to the presence of a class variable in the code for google-cloud-trace. (Class variables are uncommon in Ruby and were not accounted for in our yaml generation.) It was fixed in googleapis/ruby-common-tools#53. The yaml tarball was regenerated and reuploaded, and the pipeline was verified to work correctly afterward.
