It's hard to tell because we don't own that server. It came from an automated reporting system but it looks like a proper production installation. Either way, some minor protection on the client side against rogue server packets wouldn't be terrible in my mind.

It might be complex than you think.
We don't have length check in most packet parsing code.
Adding check random places makes it difficult to maintain this project.

Our current policy is to add check only when we confirm it is needed.
That's why I asked what server sent this packet.
