It looks like this is not possible without upgrading the GitHub account.

I've changed this repo to only allow squash merges from feature branches for a cleaner history.
Leaving open for now to think about preventing commits directly to main some more.

It looks like we can't lock down main unless we change the github subscription. There are wheels in motion but for now this can be closed and we'' revisit in the future.
