I see this, too, on macOS, with a real Git repository

Thanks for the bug report.
We don't actually use git grafts for anything. The only thing we do is explicitly disable any grafts file that the user might have set up when running git by setting GIT_GRAFT_FILE
to the equivalent of /dev/null
.
Do you see this warning only when testing, or also when processing a real Git repository?
ISTM that there are a couple of options:
- Detect when a grafts file might be in use and only disable it then. This would require duplicating whatever logic Git uses to make that determination.
- Continue setting
GIT_GRAFT_FILE
but also set the config valueadvice.graftFileDeprecated
tofalse
. But it could be that when grafts are finally, truly deprecated, then we will have a problem again. - Make our actions depend on what Git version is installed (which would have to be detected, say by running
git --version
).
